The Ambrosia Trio

The Ambrosia Trio

Beulah Cox, violin
Martin Fett, cello
Frank Daykin, piano

THE AMBROSIA TRIO is an established feature of New York concert life. The Trio was founded in 1990 by the existing members - Beulah Cox, violinist, Martin Fett, cellist and Frank Daykin, pianist. The group performs with virtuosity and a heightened ability to listen and respond. Their love of playing together and their enthusiasm for the music is obvious to anyone who hears them. The members of this ensemble are some of New York's finest musicians who are eager to bring the joy of chamber music to audiences everywhere.

The group focuses primarily on the classical and romantic piano trio literature but often will incorporate music by 20th century and living composers. Besides performing regularly in New York City, the ensemble performs nationally. Most of their appearances have resulted in immediate reengagement for several seasons.

The Trio has recorded two CD's - "Meet The Ambrosia Trio" and "Close-Up." Other accomplishments include a residency at the Banff International Centre for the Arts as well as appearances on National Public Radio. The group has collaborated with the Buglisi/Foreman Dance Company performing to sold-out audiences at the Joyce Theatre as well as performing live with the Dutchess Ballet.

REVIEWS

"...sweet tone and much sensitivity, conveying delicate emotion." -- Gannett Suburban Newspaper

"The music’s meaning was transformed and humanized by the warmth of the playing." -- The Star-Ledger

"This is a piano trio with personality which both in terms of program and performance the musicians fulfilled admirably. The program received the warmest treatment that the composers themselves could hope for. The Trio poured themselves into arching lines with conviction. The Ambrosians were constantly able to convey both style and structure. The emotional content was sensitively rendered, as much in touch with each other as they were the inner workings of the piece." -- Ken Smith, New York Concert Review

THE AMBROSIA TRIO NEWS AND RECENT PERFORMANCES

Despite a snowstorm, the Trio performed to a sold-out performance at the Honest Brook Festival in Delhi, NY. It truly was a special event. Being housed at a beautiful country estate, fed gourmet meals and talking into the night with their hosts about music was a relaxing and fulfilling experience. One exciting footnote was when some of the audience members helped Martin push Beulah’s car out of the snow bank after getting stuck on the way to the performance site.

The trio recently performed in Pennsylvania. The audience was incredibly receptive and knowledgeable about music. Once again, The Ambrosia Trio felt at home away from home – being treated like royalty.

Hofstra University requested an all Russian Program which the trio members were eager to perform. Undaunted by difficulty, the Trio performed Arensky, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich. As an extra challenge they performed a Pärt Trio called “Mozart – Adagio” from memory which enhanced the haunting drama of the piece.

The trio continues its long term relationship with the Saint Andrew Music Society Series. The first concert was presented in 1994 and the Trio has returned each year since then. Concerts this winter featured the Trio performing Mozart, Shostakovich, Ravel, Beethoven and Dvorak.

Despite busy schedules, each member of the Trio continues individual musical endeavors. Frank served as chief classical music critic for a cultural website “Robertaonthearts.com” with an estimated daily readership of 20,000. He also completed his fifth year as guest piano faculty and musicologist/ lecturer at Chamber Music Festival/Composers’ Forum of the East at Bennington, VT. Beulah has been accepted into the Marquis Who’s Who of America. She has been published recently in a book about Richard Feynman, the Nobel Prize winner in Physics. This past summer she performed at the Deep Creek Lake Music Festival held in a resort community of western Maryland. Martin is planning recitals in New York and Connecticut, some of which will include his fiancée, a mezzo-soprano as the guest artist.
